The first thing that you should accomplish is to turn off the engine. After that, you have to remove any protective cover from the battery first before disconnecting the battery itself. Disconnect the negative cable (black) first before the positive cable (red). Do not forget that you need to disconnect the black negative cable first, so as to avoid any sparks. Only then can you proceed to removing the mounting bolts and bracket by using a tool called a socket wrench. You may use a lift strap to lift out the battery from the mounting tray for easier and safer task.
After that, you can then place the battery to the slot vacated by the previous battery. Then you need to attach the red positive cable first, followed by the black negative cable. And then use the brackets and bolts of the protective cover to secure the battery in it's place. And finally, make sure that the negative and positive cables are not connected to one another to prevent an accident.
Lastly, close the hood. You also need to start the car, just to make sure that you have installed the battery properly. As soon as the engine starts, you'll know that you are ready to go for some road action. As for your old battery, the best way to dispose of it is to bring it to any recycling center to be sure that it is taken care of properly.
