My daughter used to be a daddy's girl. She listened to what I told her and do what I asked her to do. It seemed that she accepted all that I taught her. And I was saying thank heaven for that. It saved her father and me a lot of trouble which many other parents had met. As she grow up, she become more and more silent. We used to have endless talk between each other, while we can just have several words every day now. When she was a little child, we would go shopping after she went back home from school, and went out for a walk after supper. However, all of these perfect days have gone now. Since she went to the senior high school, the words between us become fewer and fewer. Instead, she would go to her bedroom as soon as she comes back from school. She seldom sits together with me to watch TV now. Anytime she is at home, she would be just stay in her room and surf the internet. She would rather chat with her friends online than talk to me which break my heart deeply. I don't understand what has happened between us.

One day, I talked about it to one of my friends. Her son is the same old as my daughter who was troublesome since he came into the world. As she was worried about that her son may go astray, she installed a spy software to monitor her son's computer. She suggested I do that too. I hesitated at the beginning. However, I did really want to know why my daughter refused to open her heart to me. Finally, on the recommendation of my friend, I installed a type of Mac keylogger in my daughter's computer. I was shocked to find that I was arbitrary in her mind when I saw her chat logs with her friend. She told them that I believed in what I taught her was totally right, and she had no right to object. If she wanted to express her own idea, I would say she was too young to know the truth, which made her have a revulsion against me. Day after day, she did not want to talk to me any more.

I am astonished. I thought I had been a good parent, a good friend to her. It seems that I am awfully wrong. I ignored her own ideas which need our attention. As a parent, we should lend an ear to our children's heart.

It is time for me to improve the relationship between my daughter and me. I hope it won't be too late.
